A Reflection: Greek

Judgement of Paris: The Act of Foolishness

Athena, the goddess of wisdom, but on one event she did the unwisest thing a goddess like her could ever do; she joined into a match with Hera and the goddess of love, Aphrodite for the prize of beauty.

Athena then promised Paris, who was told to decide, wisdom in a war. Hera offered him power, and Aphrodite offered him the most beautiful woman in the world which happens to be the queen of Sparta, the Helen of Troy. Paris decided in favor of Aphrodite and gave her the golden apple. HE was in favor of the goddess of love. He then traveled to Greece to get his prize.

Note that these wise goddesses fought for the apple. Ironic. Athena, sensible, a great defender in combat, smart, but she joined the quarrel between Aphrodite and Hera of that golden apple.

The Iliad: Heroism

As I finished reading the Iliad and I understood heroism. The idea of heroism is the moral in the Iliad. Achilles, in particular, portrays the noble one. Hunger for the honor. It contradicts to Agamemnon‘s dependence on royal privilege. According to Naq.com "As a commander, however, Agamemnon often lacks good public relations skills," the question ever prevails as to whether their struggle in the war, heroic or not, is really worth all the loss.

Odyssey: Selfishness

This one taught me a lot but I only have one perspective on this, there will always be outcomes or consequences to your actions, whether this was good or bad.  The most influential lesson I learned is that that you can be selfish in some conditions as well, he had to return home, to his wife and child, he is willing to do anything to come home, sacrificing some of his men or ask them to do a dangerous task for them to escape.. If I were on his shoe, I would, no doubt, do the same thing.

Greek Creation: Abortion

Abortion is becoming legal in the modern era. Killing their own child of fear that one day they are not able to furnish their needs, but the Greeks were the contrary, they were worried about being succeeded by their descendants, thus killing them by eating. However, they were just the same thing, they were greedy, the modern era is selfish for they only thought of their own misery, maybe the kid would suffer but killing is not an answer, adoption is. For the Greeks, they were selfish for they were afraid that someday their offspring would overrule them one day.
